Dielectric breakdown in a simplified parallel model
The growth of streamer trees in insulating fluids ~a submicrosecond process that triggers high-voltage breakdown! has been simulated with a combination of parallel-coding tools. Large grids and arrays display well the multifractal, self-avoiding character of the streamer trees. Three physical cases have been approximated by different power-law weightings of the statistical growth filter: dense ...
متن کاملd-wave superconductivity in the hubbard model
The superconducting instabilities of the doped repulsive 2D Hubbard model are studied in the intermediate to strong coupling regime with the help of the dynamical cluster approximation. To solve the effective cluster problem we employ an extended noncrossing approximation, which allows for a transition to the broken symmetry state. At sufficiently low temperatures we find stable d-wave solution...
متن کاملPartial breakdown of quantum thermalization in a Hubbard-like model
We study the possible breakdown of quantum thermalization in a model of itinerant electrons on a one-dimensional chain without disorder, with both spin and charge degrees of freedom. The eigenstates of this model exhibit peculiar properties in the entanglement entropy, the apparent scaling of which is modified from a “volume law” to an “area law” after performing a partial, sitewise measurement...
متن کاملDielectric breakdown model for composite materials.
This paper addresses the problem of dielectric breakdown in composite materials. The dielectric breakdown model was generalized to describe dielectric breakdown patterns in conductor-loaded composites. Conducting particles are distributed at random in the insulating matrix, and the dielectric breakdown propagates according to new rules to take into account electrical properties and particle siz...
متن کاملFractal to nonfractal phase transition in the dielectric breakdown model.
A fast method is presented for simulating the dielectric-breakdown model using iterated conformal mappings. Numerical results for the dimension and for corrections to scaling are in good agreement with the recent renormalization group prediction of an upper critical eta(c) = 4, at which a transition occurs between branching fractal clusters and one-dimensional nonfractal clusters.
